Chemical/Process - Design, develop and operate processes for converting and refining raw materials into products.
Civil - Perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of structures, and facilities, such as roads, rail, bridges, harbours, pipelines, power plants, and water systems.
Electrical - Research, design, develop, test and maintain aspects of manufacturing and installing electrical equipment, components, or systems.
Environmental - Involved with environmental hazard identification and risk management, disaster management, measurement and monitoring processes.
Geotechnical - Perform engineering duties connected to soil and rock mechanics to investigate subsurface conditions and materials; determine the relevant physical/mechanical and chemical properties; assess risks; design earthworks and structure foundations; and monitor site conditions.
Mechanical - Involved in planning, design, installation, testing and maintenance of tools, engines, machines and other mechanically functioning equipment.
Mining - Conduct subsurface surveys to identify the characteristics of potential land or mining development sites. May advise and plan on appropriate ground support systems, processes and equipment for safe and environmentally sound extraction or underground construction activities.
Archaeology/Anthropology - Work with communities, governments and internal project managers to minimise the impact of change on both tangible (physical) and intangible (oral history, belief systems) cultural heritage through the documentation and assessment of archaeological and anthropological values.
Environmental Science - Measure and record features of the environment to assess and develop methods of controlling or minimising the harmful effects of human activity on the environment.
Geology/Geoscience - This discipline can vary in roles from exploration to mining however all roles include activities such as mapping; drilling; sampling and compiling of geological data for interpretation and use in planning and production models. Resource and reserve assessment as well as classification and reporting of resources are all key outcomes of the discipline.
Hydrogeology - Execute drilling and test pumping programmes to define hydraulic parameters to meet the business needs for water supply and dewatering.
Hydrology - Evaluate and manage the quality, quantity, reliability and sustainability of all aspects of water resources, including soil-moisture variation, amount, speed and direction of groundwater flow, extraction and replenishment of groundwater, water chemistry and pollution.
Landscape Architecture - Plan, design and advise on the conservation and sustainability of the outdoor environments.
Metallurgy - Chemistry and physics backgrounds are used to develop improved ways of separating valuable minerals from ores that have been mined.
Surveying - Technique and science of accurately determining the terrestrial or three-dimensional space position of points and the distances and angles between them.
Business - Analyse and improve on the functions of the business and contribute to annual action plans or function strategies.
Commerce/Accounting - Analyse financial information to assess business performance and/or determine future business development and growth opportunities.
Community Relations - Work with local communities, industry, and governments to assess community needs, manage change and establish and maintain broad and complex relationships.
Communications - Design and execute communications strategy to align to business needs, may involve communications with internal and external stakeholders.
Economics - Research and analyse economic data to develop strategy or formulate a plan to address economic scenarios.
Finance - Analyse financial information, prepare financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities.
Human Resources - Provide services in relation to (but not limited to): recruitment, remuneration, post-retirement benefits, talent management, workforce planning, payroll, employee benefits, international mobility, training & development, employee services, and HR management / overhead.
Information Technology - Support, maintain and improve information systems and technology to deliver infrastructure, applications and security to meet business needs
International/External Relations - Design and execute stakeholder management strategy to align to business needs, may involve communications with internal and external groups.
Occupational Health & Safety - Identify and manage health and safety related risks, including medical and occupational health and safety. Involved in reactive and proactive activities including reporting, investigations and establishing best practice.
Procurement - Manage the global and regional strategic sourcing and buying of goods and services. Also responsible for managing the inbound supply chain. Ensure that the right goods and services are delivered, safely, to the right location at the right time.
