Meet Lubna, an Investigator in the Building Investigations branch at the New South Wales Department of Finance, Services and Innovation (DFSI)
After completing a degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice and Social Science and Policy, Lubna brought her curiosity and investigative skills to her work as an Investigator for Residential Building Work with NSW Fair Trading.
“One of the areas NSW Fair Trading is responsible for is regulating residential building work to ensure compliance is upheld across the state, and to ensure customers out in the community are engaging with appropriately licenced contractors. To safeguard this, it is my role to gather evidence for possible breaches of Acts and Regulations,” she explains.
A varied role with big impact
In her varied role, Lubna researches and analyses information in relation to the act, conducts intelligence and profiling searches, investigates trader conduct, visits building sites and, if prosecution is necessary, attends court to provide evidence for investigations conducted.
“I enjoy the daily challenge of my role, with its diverse variety of tasks each day, and being a part of an inclusive work unit,” she enthuses.
Working for the diverse community
The residential building industry is ever-growing, and Lubna trusts that investigating and monitoring the industry reduces the risk of non-compliance and ensures customer protection.
Lubna puts her keen curiosity and investigative skills to good use even beyond her workplace.
“I enjoy travelling and exploring new places. I especially have a passion for discovering up and coming places. And yes, that involves a few Instagram posts,” she laughs.
“I’m passionate about contributing to the wider community and, in doing so, am living a meaningful life.”
