Senior Underground Mining Engineer - Design and Caving

We are looking for a Senior Underground Mining Engineer - Design and Caving to provide mine design, operational planning expertise and project deliverables for the underground Oyu Tolgoi Project in order to maximize resource recovery and minimize project risk.
The Growth & Innovation group operates through the entire life cycle of Rio Tinto’s mines and assets, creating value through exploration, project development and technical excellence. Working in close partnership with all product groups, it focuses on finding safer, smarter and more efficient ways to manage resources and operations.
What the role entails
This role is a great opportunity to join the Brisbane based MPT team in building one of the world’s most exciting underground mining projects. Reporting to the Superintendent Design & Caving, you will be:
Delivering medium to long-term design and planning services to protect and enhance project value.
Delivering undercut and extraction level detail design projects and updating the LOM mine design whilst also undertaking optimization projects
Delivering timely and high quality work for project execution
Seeking sustainable efficiency improvements via systems and processes as well as initiating and delivering projects to reduce risk and increase project robustness
Managing change from the approved plan and building a strong technical knowledge base at the project
Seeking opportunities to improve safety and implement efficiency improvements
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this role, you will have:
A Mining Engineering degree or equivalent with at least 7 years’ experience
Mine design, CAD and scheduling experience
Demonstrated practical underground mining experience
Highly effective communication and stakeholder management skills
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Experience with the Deswik software
Experience in cave mining or mass mining
Experience working with global teams in remote areas
