We are looking for a Specialist Hydrologist to join our Water Resource Evaluation & Services (WRES) team to provide surface water management support, guidance and direction to iron ore mining operations and expansion studies.
The Orebody Knowledge and Planning Division is accountable for exploring, developing and planning resource extraction at the right cost for our Iron Ore business. The team is responsible for exploration and evaluation drilling, resource estimation, geoscience and mining engineering functions.
What the role entails
This role is a great opportunity for a highly motivated individual. Reporting to the Superintendent Hydrologist, you will be:
Provide technical input into expansion studies for Conceptual, Order-of-Magnitude, PFS, FS, life of mine, closure and 5 year mining studies
Scope, undertake and review surface water investigations to establish hydrologic and hydraulic conditions and develop strategic and tactical surface water management plans
Undertake annual flood risk assessments and support the annual wet season management plan development for operational sites
Provide and effectively communicate technical advice on surface water issues to operations and stakeholders
Identify and proactively build and foster strong relationships with site mining personnel, hydrogeologists and environmental officers
Support the Superintendent Hydrologist in developing and coaching the Hydrology team
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this role, you will have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science or equivalent degree
Curent C Class WA driving licence
Demonstrated experience in design flood estimation in the Pilbara region of Western Australia and design of flood mitigation structures for mining operations
Demonstrated experience in surface water investigations and development of surface water management plans for mining operations
Demonstrated experience in the use of hydrologic and hydraulic models and GIS tools
Demonstrated experience with the presentation of surface water information to non-specialist stakeholders
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Post graduate qualification in hydrology or water resource management
Experience in the development and leadership of technical teams
