The RBA’s Note Issue Department is responsible for maintaining confidence in Australia’s banknotes through activities that include research into and development of new banknote designs and security features, the supply of good quality, authentic banknotes to meet the community's demand, and informing and educating the public about banknotes and their security features.
Note Issue Department oversees all aspects of the production and issuance of Australia's banknotes with the objective of ensuring public confidence in banknotes as an effective means of payment and a store of wealth. In doing so it manages every phase of the banknote life cycle, along with the supply, functionality and security of Australia's banknotes.
The RBA employs a medium-sized scientific research team at its Craigieburn premises to assist with the Bank's role of ensuring confidence in Australian Banknotes.
The Department is seeking a Counterfeit Officer to provide assistance to the RBA’s Research & Development Section and specifically to the Counterfeit Evaluation Laboratory (CEL) at its Craigieburn facility, which is co-located on the Note Printing Australia site.
The key responsibilities of this role will include (but are not limited to):
Assisting with data entry, analysis and preparation of reports.
Ensuring that information on counterfeits is recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
Liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
Maintaining safe custody of counterfeits.
Overseeing developments for improving the sections databases.
Developing and maintaining operating procedures and policies.
Provide administrative assistance in procurement, safety and compliance.
You will have contact with staff across the Note Issue Department and the wider Bank, along with external parties such as law enforcement agencies and key suppliers.
To be considered for the position you must have:
High level of computer literacy, with competency in the range of Windows software – particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
Experience in data entry, handling and reporting.
Demonstrated a high level of attention to detail.
Strong ability to deliver high quality output under time pressure.
Have demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively in a small team.
Well developed time management and organisational skills.
An ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Successful applicants will be subject to Australian government security clearance vetting, which requires candidates to hold Australian citizenship.
