Graduate Mechanical Engineer

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Graduate – Mechanical, to work with the site maintenance teams to assure the highest integrity and performance of our assets at the lowest possible cost while ensuring adherence to Rio Tinto principles and guidelines.

Dampier Salt has three operations located at Dampier, Port Hedland and Lake MacLeod and is headquartered in Perth, Western Australia. Produced through a sustainable process of solar evaporation of sea water, we reliably deliver high quality salt essential for making thousands of products used in everyday life. Gypsum is additionally mined and processed at our Lake MacLeod operations.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity for a dynamic individual to provide problem solving, operational improvement, and risk management skills within a highly technical field, and using those skills to find, investigate and gather information such as data, facts and figures. You will provide the business recommendations to improve maintenance tactics, or modifying plant/equipment to increase availability, reduce maintenance costs and optimise the management of business risks against asset performance.

Reporting to the Specialist Engineer, you will be:

Working with multi-disciplined teams using reverse reliability centred maintenance and plant maintenance optimisation principles
Assessing existing maintenance tactics for their effectiveness/efficiency to develop quantified improvement recommendations.
Conducting monthly defect elimination meetings with site management and leadership teams to prioritise, allocate and track progress on reliability improvement work.

Executing reliability improvement projects to remove chronic defects from DSL operations.
Monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness of the site condition monitoring activities (oil analysis, vibration analysis, etc) rectifying and escalating issues as they develop
Conducting detailed root cause analysis of premature major component failures, identifing essential / contributory factors and making recommendations and changes required to prevent reoccurrence

What you will need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:

Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)

WA Driver’s Licence,

High level of computer literacy (Word, Excel, Project)

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, across a broad range of people from diverse technical and workplace backgrounds

Strong organisation and time management

It will also be beneficial if you have:

Metalliferous Processing Plant (maintenance) experience,

Postgraduate qualifications in Reliability, Maintenance and/or Project Management

Condition Monitoring (i.e. VA, OA, Thermography)
